Our Zonta Club Brixen - Bressanone was chartered in 1989. Our aim and focus follow the guiding principles described by Marian de Forest and her girlfriends, who founded Zonta International, the world’s first women’s club, in 1919. The goal back then in Buffalo, New York, USA was, and is for us in Brixen now, the strengthening of the position of women and girls in society.
Almost 100 years later, the guiding principle of improving the legal, political, social, economic and occupational position of women remains unchanged. Club membership, however, has grown to 30,000 professional women united across 1,230 clubs in 67 countries.
Club meetings in Brixen
We meet once a month, every second Tuesday, from 7 p.m. at the renowned Finsterwirt restaurant. Most evenings have a thematic focus. We invite interesting women and men from different fields. After invitees introduce topics, present ideas or hold lectures, we have lively discussions.
Several times a year we go on small excursions, exploring summer or winter landscapes while hiking and chatting. We invite Zontians of our neighboring clubs from Bozen-Bolzano and Innsbruck to these events. We also meet for dinners in our homes and gardens and participate in the activities of our neighboring clubs throughout the year. Every second year, we organize a traditional fall Törggele weekend with many guests from other Zonta clubs coming from near and far.
Being a Zonta Club member
We help make a difference in the lives of girls and women in our immediate geographic surroundings and around the world. When we pool our knowledge, our strengths and our commitment, we have a much greater and deeper impact. We can better serve the weak, influence legislation and social development, promote talents and aspirations, and disseminate our Zonta mission and vision. The affiliation with Zonta International gives us the opportunity to try out leadership skills, expand our professional networks, exchange international knowledge and develop a broader, even global, perspective on a wide variety of topics and concerns.
We consider active and regular participation in the club evenings and in our various initiatives such as area meetings or international conferences very important. It is through participation in these events that life-long friendships between Zontians develop.
